Meet our newest seamstress, Charlotte!

Meet our newest seamstress, Charlotte!

We welcomed Charlotte to Tica Lily in May 2021 and she has since become an invaluable part of the team and is one of our talented seamstresses.

When she wasn’t busy creating some of our sustainable linen homewares, we caught up with her recently to find out more about how she’s finding her new role, what inspires, and how she likes to spend her time outside of work.

Tell us about your normal working day?

“My job is very varied and there’s always something going on!

“Some days I might be cutting the sustainable linen that we use to make our products, other days there may be a lot of sewing to do. There are always little jobs to do outside of the large projects that I work on as well, so there’s never a dull moment.”

What’s your favourite part of the job?

“There’s a lot to love about being a seamstress at Tica Lily but my favourite is definitely having lots of opportunities to learn new skills and expand on existing ones.

“I also get to work on unexpected projects that I’ve never done before. Recently I got the chance to work on some upholstery, which was something different for me and it was great to try something new and develop my craft.”

What in particular inspires you?

“I love the variety of my role. It definitely keeps my creative brain whirring! Working with lovely linen inspires me to create new and sustainable products that look beautiful while protecting the planet too.

“The level of detail that the team goes into when planning new products is also inspirational. A lot of work goes into the design and release of new ranges and it’s amazing to see the process, and the final result when everything comes together.”

You’ve a love of all things textile, where does that come from?

I did an Art Foundation course when I was at college and later went on to study textiles and print at university, so I would say my love of textiles started there and just grew and grew!

Are there experiences from your studies that have helped in your current role?

Being able to work with a wide variety of materials and manufacture methods means my knowledge was quite diverse when coming into the role.

Hopefully in the future I’ll be able to utilise my skills to help develop the ranges at Tica Lily, particularly potential print ranges.

What about your down time?

I spend my free time doing embroidery and when I’m not doing that I like to read.

Are you working on an embroidery project at the moment?

I recently completed a large mandala, which took a lot of hours to finish. I have also just finished making a brooch and both projects are going on my Etsy shop.

And when it comes to reading, do you have a favourite genre?

I like reading lots of different genres but my favourites are historical fiction and fantasy, they’re both great for escaping the real world!
